Organic Farming ,To Be Prioritized Again?
"Organic
farming", a term is normally heared by our ears most of the time in present days. Why is it so? Is it a new kind of farming? Are the products of organic farming best? Such questions may arise in our mind ,most often. We see many specific farmers , local businessmen and entrepreneurs running behind the trade of organic farming. It has been a term of curiosity and enthusiasm for us. So, here, we are learning about organic farming in details.
Organic farming refers to the natural methods of farming and aims to preserve the fertility and productivity of land involving various techniques ;
has become a topic of concern today. It's not like, it is a new kind of farming
for us , but it is an old practices taken by our ancestor before. Viewing the
history ,we can know that, for thousands of years agriculture was practiced without use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. During
the mid 19th century ,the first artificial fertilizers were created
and the continuation of development procedure of such pesticides , referred the
decade as " pesticide era" in 1940. Many years after then people
start realizing that such cheap , powerful and mobile fertilizers are
beneficial for easy crop production in bulk amount in short term for commercial purpose but are providing distractions
to our soil and land in long term. Recent days are facing more difficulties, if we are analyzing. The
action of climate change is emerging and the polluted environment is making
earth ,a difficult place to survive . The use of chemical fertilizers are
degrading the soil and its fertility. Agriculture is not being favorable to practice well .
There are
wide benefits of organic agriculture. This farming is concerned on the health of
soil, people and ecological aspects. The sprays of the chemical fertilizer and
pesticides results in a polluting atmosphere and also pollutes the water during
soil erosion. So , organic farming makes a environment pollution free. It minimizes
soil erosion and degradation . These farming intends to use the composted
manure along with cover crops to provide effective nutrients to the crop. We can also see the impacts of
organic farming on the produced crops which contains more nutrients , vitamins,
richer concentrations of antioxidants comparison to the fertilizer applied crops.
Besides , the organic food also avoids the GMO (Genetically Modified Organism)
products. Such products are created from
unnatural composition of genes inorder to provide new characteristics in GMO
case. Crop diversity is also widely preferred in organic farming. It reduces
the risk of crop failure . The most important point is that organic farming
makes the proper utilization of natural
resources in short term and aims to conserve the nature for future generation .
We can find
various problems that are making organic farming inapplicable in many regions
of the world. Lacking of sufficient seeds, biofertilizers and biopesticides as
organic inputs are becoming major problems in many areas. Awareness is also an
important aspect , but many farmers ,input
suppliers , consumers ,etc. are not aware about the importance of
organic cultivation and organic
products. In organic farming , more laborrs are needed , which may be dilemma to carry ;
especially in urban areas and due to this , the cost of cultivation rises. It
is also in conception of people that the yield of organic farming is less in
comparison to that of conventional farming and such condition may lead to
global food shortage. For the farmers seeking to start organic farming need a proper access to land and capital as
well. Conventional farming in which one can plant a crop which is popular at a
time and earn maximum from it is
different in organic farming ; in where
,a crop rotation is necessary which may limit the earnings . Many domestic
consumers may also not able to purchase organic foods. Since initial cost of
organic farming is high but the result is low ,farmers feel it difficult to
make in a practice.
Yes, there
are many problems viewed and experienced while taking organic farming on operation, yet we should not run away from it. According to the increasing population ,we are in trouble of
food shortage in one hand and on the other hand various environmental and
climatic problems are being faced by the use of chemical substances, that are harming humans and wildlife existence. Organic
farming maintains the balance between
nature and agricultural production by not having bad influence of climate change ,
biodiversity loss and excess nitrogen flow. Farmers should be arranged with
giving the opportunities of compensation if the organic agriculture is destroyed;
by government. This gives some kind of encouragement to farmers towards organic farming. Besides farmers should be provided with adequate information and
training on organic production and
should be focused on gaining the long term benefit from organic farming despite
having low benefits from starting phase. Farmers are our live savers, we should always know that .If they bring healthy products in the markets, we become healthier, but if its unhealthy ,our health gets ruined. No matter what, organic farming is today's necessity
,and should be enhanced widely for better tomorrows.
